ACA and copyright issues

Just a quick note.. The ACA as you know is a wonderful boat with lots of opportunities to customise your craft. Whether it be a new hull or a modified suit of sails.

However with that comes responsibility. We at ACA and 9th.com will not be held responsible for any copyright infringement. That is to say if you choose to design your sail with a real life company logo name or design that has been copyrighted you do so at your own risk. You could of course ask the owner of the copyrighted material for permission to use their logo or name within virtual world of second life.

Although there is a very slim chance of you being actively sued for copyright infringements there is a chance. We just need to point out that if such a case were to appear ACA and 9th.com would point to this post as a clear indication that we do not condone intellectual copyright theft.

I would include an image of a boat that has used a copyrighted logo, but that would get into as much trouble as you….lol. Please remeber that some real life companies are VERY litigious and protective of their logos and name. For further information please take a look at the Linden Labs Wiki on this subject here

ACA and the Ranking system

You will be aware that there is a new competition within second life’s sailing world.. a ranking system that pits sailors throughout the year against each other. at anyone time you can see how well you’re doing against sailors from around the world!!

After the ACA trophy ACA management is excited about these developments.. We would like to explain ACA’s involvement and limitations within this series..

ACA Management by 9th.com will happily supply technical skills and authority to any clubs that choose to run a ‘graded’ race event, as long as the event is both within the grading criteria and authorised by the ranking committee.

ACA brand is independent of ANY yacht club. We specialise in creating and supporting the ACA boat in Second Life. We are not a sailing or racing club. We have not and will not favour any club or organisation that runs graded races. We will also not run races.. that is for the wonderful spectrum of sailing clubs that can be found in Second Life. If your club is not considering following the ACA ranking system then bug and nag your commodore to get onto the system.

If any club would like to advertise their graded ACA event through the ACA Racers group please send myself a notecard with the wording you would like to be added.  Please allow reasonable time for the notice to be sent (I have a real life as well)
